If you are reading this article, chances are you are dealing with another spring (early this year!) of sniffling, sneezing, red eyes and just feeling lousy. Chances are you have also tried “everything” to combat your seasonal allergies: Over the counter medications, allergy shots, prescription medications, jumping up and down on one leg, ANYTHING to get relief. For all of your efforts, these measures have either not helped the problem, not helped enough or maybe had some side effects that make you not want to continue using them. So what do you do, stay inside?  Its spring!  This is the time to get out there and start enjoying the outdoors again, not stuck inside on the couch, waiting for the pollen count to go down! Fortunately there are alternatives that are safe and effective.

Some natural remedies for relieving seasonal allergies include the following:

  • Avoid sugars, refined carbohydrates and dairy
  • Probiotics
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Nasal Rinse*
  • Local, Raw Honey
  • Nettle Leaf
  • Quercetin

*   At Princeton Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, we recommend a nasal rinse using a solution of echinacea and goldenseal, contact us to find out more.

Acupuncture has been proven in studies to relieve allergy symptoms. In allergy season (right now) this is what we focus on. It is common for patients to come in with severe nasal congestion, itchy eyes and headaches and leave after just one visit with their nose clear and feeling much better. We also recommend that allergy sufferers get maintenance treatments when it is not allergy season and we see a dramatic reduction in symptoms when allergy seasons rolls along with these patients. Patients who get the best results do a series of acupuncture treatments and adopt at least a couple of the natural remedies listed above. We see great results in patients who follow the following protocol: acupuncture treatments, twice daily nasal rinse, local honey and pretty strict dietary changes, at least during the height of the allergy season.

Stop suffering, call today to discuss your individual situation so that we can come up with a plan that provides you with relief!
